ASSIGNED NUMBERS |
|
|

Debra Winger stars as a mentally retarded woman, who is
suspected of swiping money from her employer's cash register. Barbara Hershey and Gabriel
Byrne co-star.
SEX/NUDITY 7 - There are several sex scenes, with varying degrees of
intensity and nudity: one scene leaves little to the imagination, and another takes place
on a kitchen floor; yet another is interrupted. We also see a side shot of a woman's
bosom, and another woman's naked behind (while she is sexually gratifying herself),
and also a man's naked behind.
VIOLENCE/GORE 6 - A woman tries to run her husband over with a car and then
points a gun at him. Another woman takes a kitchen knife to a co-worker and slices into
his stomach with about 30 slashes -- a very bloody, graphic and disturbing scene.
PROFANITY 7 - A couple of dozen F-words are employed, as well as several
assorted scatological and anatomical references. [profanity glossary]
DISCUSSION TOPICS - Rape, prison, murder, adultery, abortion, mental illness.
MESSAGE - Those who are mentally retarded are wackos, so stay away from
them.

A CAVEAT: We've gone through several editorial changes since we started covering films in 1992 and some of our early standards were not as stringent as they are now. We therefore need to revisit many older reviews, especially those written prior to 1998 or so; please keep this in mind if you're consulting a review from that period. While we plan to revisit and correct older reviews our resources are limited and it is a slow, time-consuming process. |
