MPAA Rating: PG-13

Portrayal of the friendship between two lonely boys, one of whom has AIDS. With Joseph Mazzello, Brad Renfro and Annabella Sciorra.

SEX/NUDITY 0 - A scene in which two boys look at a magazine centerfold, but nothing is shown.

VIOLENCE/GORE 3 - Two scenes in which a drunken parent repeatedly slaps her child. Two scenes in which characters are chased, but they are not attacked. The only blood in the film is in a scene in which the character with AIDS cuts his thumb on purpose (to scare away the bad guys).

PROFANITY 5 - A few F-words, as well as several scatological terms and anatomical references. [profanity glossary]

DISCUSSION TOPICS - AIDS, prejudice, alcoholism, physical abuse.

MESSAGE - Friendship does make a difference. Don't be prejudiced.

(Note: The young characters in this film decide to test out "cures" for AIDS by boiling and ingesting a variety of plants found in their backyard. They also microwave candy. Children may be influenced to try such potentially dangerous recipes.)
