Kirsten Dunst stars as a bored and rebellious rich girl
attending an L.A. high school who falls in love with a hardworking, poor boy from the
other side of the tracks (Jay Hernandez). Also with Lucinda Jenney, Taryn Manning and
Bruce Davison. [2:15]
SEX/NUDITY 5 - A young man and woman undress down to their underwear and
kiss while on a bed, and a young man and woman bare to the waist (we only see her back)
kiss and touch each other in bed in a couple of scenes. We see a young man and woman in a
fogged up shower stall kissing (from the waist up and in profile). Also a young man and
woman in their underwear wrestle around on a bed. A young woman climbs on the lap of a
young man and kisses him (he tries to resist). A young man and woman kiss in several other
scenes. A group of young people with bare shoulders are shown in a hot tub; one couple
kiss. Two young women dance suggestively with each other, with some men in a crowd and
then with a young man. A young woman urinates in an alley. A young woman wears a barely
opaque, tiny white T-shirt and her nipples are visible. There is some sexual innuendo: a
young woman talks to her friend about rumors that are going around about her activities
the night before, a young man and woman talk about using condoms, and there's a reference
to the "mile high club." A young man gets out of bed in his underwear. We see a
photo of a man's bare legs to the hip (it's a profile and his legs are crossed and nothing
is exposed). Two young women kiss; it doesn't appear to be sexual but rather a gesture of
best friends. A young woman licks a young man's face (like a dog). Young women wear
midriff- and cleavage-revealing outfits throughout the film. A voice-over describes the
feeling of a man's touch. A group of young men cat-call at young women a few times.
VIOLENCE/GORE 3 - A young man is punched in the face, a young man is shoved
into a hot tub and a man yells at a group of young men. A young woman kicks and screams
when police hold her by the arms, and a young man is shoved down into the hood of a car.
Two girls quarrel with
name-calling and angry gestures. A young woman yells at her father
and a young man yells at his mother and brother. Two young women drive their cars
recklessly in several scenes. A young man is dropped from a boardwalk onto a beach (it's a
playful act).
PROFANITY 5 - 3 F-words (one is mouthed), 18 scatological terms, 7
anatomical terms, 23 mild profanities, 11 religious profanities and exclamations. [profanity glossary]
DISCUSSION TOPICS - Parental rejection, suicide, drug use/abuse, community
service, DUI, interracial relationships, having a plan for your life, broken families,
hating yourself, trusting, lying, being worth loving.
MESSAGE - Loving and being loved in return can save a lost soul. Remember
what's important.
(Note: High school aged kids are shown being high, drunk and/or wasted throughout
the movie. There is also the discussion of a young woman finding her mother dead after
committing suicide.)
