Unlike the MPAA we do not assign
one
inscrutable rating based on age, but 3 objective ratings for SEX/NUDITY, VIOLENCE/GORE
and PROFANITY on a scale of 0 to 10, from lowest to highest,
depending on quantity and context.
A Taiwan intelligence officer (Jet Li) trying to retrieve stolen diamonds after a jewelry heist becomes
involved with a gang leader (DMX) who's trying to free his 8-year-old daughter who has been kidnapped by an international criminal (Mark
Dacascos). Also with Anthony Anderson and Tom Arnold. [1:40]
SEX/NUDITY 7 - A man takes a woman to his office where she begins to remove her clothing and dance seductively; she ends up
in only her panties (we see the side of her bare breast and part of her buttocks), she rubs her leg on the man's crotch, she licks his
face and begins to unfasten his pants. A man enters a room where a woman stands wearing a bra and panties and he talks about his endowment
and tries to seduce her. A woman wears tops that reveal her cleavage and her bare midriff throughout the movie. Many women in a nightclub
wear outfits that reveal cleavage, bare midriffs, bare thighs, bare shoulders and backs. Women in a fight club wear skimpy outfits
revealing legs and cleavage and midriffs. Two men flirt and make references to techniques and endowments. A man has a magazine on his desk
that has a bare-chested man on the cover and it is suggested that he is homosexual. A man gets a pornographic magazine in the mail and we
see a woman's bare shoulders on the cover -- the rest of her body is covered by a red bar. We see a poster of a woman in a swimsuit that
shows cleavage and bare thighs. There are a few references to men being pimps, a man and a woman kiss and a man admires a woman's
cleavage.
VIOLENCE/GORE 7 - A man and a woman lie on top of a moving train, the woman slips over the side and the man struggles to
keep her from falling. An 8-year-old girl is kidnapped, slapped in the face, gagged and taped, yelled at by her captors during her
captivity, and in one scene chased by a man with a gun. We see a man after a fight with a very bloody face and eye and a belt wrapped
around his neck and we later see him dead in a fish tank. A tank crashes through a hangar door, takes aim at people, fires at a man who is
eventually hit, fires at another man in a car, drives over the car (the man crawls out), fires on a helicopter that spins, crashes and
explodes (a man crawls out of the wreckage). There is a sequence in a fight club where opponents enter a cage and fight; blood splatters
on the audience who hold a plastic sheet and cheer the fighters on (we see a few one-on-one battles). Another cage fight begins with two
men and continues with many men getting into the cage and fighting one man and many kicks and punches land and we see one man's arm being
broken (it is bent back) and hear the crunch. Also, one man's earring is yanked from his ear (he is covered with blood), one man of small
stature is picked up and used to kick and head-butt several other men and is then tossed into them, and the cage breaks and one side falls
onto part of the audience. A man shoves a crustacean claw (crab or lobster) into another man's hand (we see some blood), then shoves him
off a chair, to the floor, and then steps on his throat and we see the man dead later (with a utensil protruding from the back of his
head). Two cars race through streets, one shoves a dumpster into the other, and the parties fight: one man's arm is slammed into a car
door (we see the arm bend back), one man shoots at another man repeatedly, another man throws a bottle that breaks when it hits a man in
the head (we see blood on his head and face), a man is thrown against the corner of a building, and a man is kicked repeatedly. A man
kicks a couple of police officers, steals an off-road quad and drives through streets while being chased by cruisers; they swerve through
streets, through alleys, jump obstacles, some cruisers crash and the off-road quad crashes through a window in a building and jumps to a
rooftop crossing over a street; a man on a motorcycle tries to jump too but doesn't make it (the motorcycle goes through the window and
down to the street and the rider dangles from the window ledge). There are many one-on-one fights where the combatants kick, punch and
flip and several instances where one person tries to hit and kick the other person but each attempt is blocked. A man is punched, kicked,
tossed over a sofa and held on the floor by his assailant who steps on his head (we see a bloody nose). A man and a woman fight, she holds
a gun on him and another woman distracts her. Two women fight with many kicks, punches, and flips: one has a coat wrapped around her
throat, one jumps in the air and is kicked in the crotch on the way down, and one grabs a gun and shoots the other in the abdomen several
times (we see bloody bullet holes). Two men fight by throwing each other around and kicking: one is hit with wheel chocks he then runs
into the wing of a plane and lands hard on the ground. Two men fight with many loud kicks and punches, we hear one man's arm crack and one
man is forced to swallow a bit of plutonium that makes his neck swell and glow, his eyes begin to glow and he burns and "melts" (his skin
falls away from the bone). A man fights three men with punches and kicks and he ends up with a bloody head. A man is kicked in the face as
he climbs onto a platform, he falls back onto train tracks and the two men fight with punches and kicks. A woman kicks a man in the groin
and then the face. A man lunges at another man with a knife and a third man kicks him and he drops to the floor. A little girl bites one
man's hand, and a little girl kicks a man in the groin, steals a van and drives it through a warehouse crashing into barrels of oil. A man
slaps a woman in the face. Two men run through an underground train tunnel, a train approaches, and they slip through a doorway as the
train narrowly misses them. Two men are shot. A man drops down the side of a building catching each balcony as he falls, trying to find a
particular apartment. A man jumps off a roof, flips around holding a rope and crashes through a window. A man lies still after having been
stunned by a stun gun. Two men are chased by guard dogs that snarl and bark at them. We see a video of a man being threatened by two men.
Three people break into a safe and loot safety deposit boxes.

A CAVEAT: We've gone through several editorial changes since we
started covering films in 1992 and some of our early standards were
not as stringent as they are now. We therefore need to revisit many
older reviews, especially those written prior to 1998 or so; please
keep this in mind if you're consulting a review from that period.
While we plan to revisit and correct older reviews our resources are
limited and it is a slow, time-consuming process.
