ASSIGNED NUMBERS |
|
|

Patrick Swayze stars as an American surgeon so
disillusioned with life that he travels to India in a confused search for some spiritual
insight.
SEX/NUDITY 1 - One intimated sex scene; both parties remain dressed.
VIOLENCE/GORE 5 - A scene where a young girls face is slashed, it is not
shown, but the result is. A man is beaten repeatedly, along with other members of the
community in the City of Joy. When the coordinator for the clinic and school refuses to
pay for protection for the new building, a riot breaks out between lepers and townspeople
who don't want them in their town, there are stabbings, bludgeonings and bloody noses.
PROFANITY 3 - Some strong language. [profanity glossary]
DISCUSSION TOPICS - Poverty, determination of the important things in life,
finding yourself.
MESSAGE - If you just let go of your fears, you can then go on to do what is
right in your life. Running away from your problems is not the answer.

A CAVEAT: We've gone through several editorial changes since we started covering films in 1992 and some of our early standards were not as stringent as they are now. We therefore need to revisit many older reviews, especially those written prior to 1998 or so; please keep this in mind if you're consulting a review from that period. While we plan to revisit and correct older reviews our resources are limited and it is a slow, time-consuming process. |
