Nicolas Cage is an angel who falls in love with Meg Ryan and decides to try out being human.

SEX/NUDITY 5 - A man's bare buttocks are seen, and there's a brief glimpse of male frontal nudity from the side. A naked couple kiss (no nudity is actually evident), caress and the woman sits on top of the man as they have sex with discreet thrusting. Sexual innuendo. Kissing.

VIOLENCE/GORE 4 - Blood is seen during an operation. Threatening with guns during an armed robbery. A finger is nearly severed and a woman cuts a man's hand. A bloody incision is shown, there's some blood on a hand, a lip, a shoulder and an eyebrow. A woman's bruised face is shown with a spot of blood on her forehead. A woman rides a bike into a truck (not seen). A man falls from a great height (but is not seriously injured). Two face slaps and a face punch. A man is roughed up by a group of people.

PROFANITY 4 - Many scatological references, a few mild obscenities, an anatomical reference. [profanity glossary]

DISCUSSION TOPICS - God, angels, doctors, death and the afterlife, falling in love.

A CAVEAT: We've gone through several editorial changes since we started covering films in 1992 and some of our early standards were not as stringent as they are now. INAPPROPRIATE ADS? We have little control over ads since we belong to ad agencies that serve ads automatically; a standing order should prevent provocative ads, but inappropriate ads do sneak in.
