Although our site is very popular, the current economic climate has reduced our revenues just when we need extra security to prevent attacks from hackers who don't like what we do. If you think what we do is worthwhile, please donate or become a member.

Unlike the MPAA we do not assign one inscrutable rating based on age, but 3 objective ratings for SEX/NUDITY, VIOLENCE/GORE and PROFANITY on a scale of 0 to 10, from lowest to highest, depending on quantity and context.

A group of cave divers goes deeper than they have been before, in order to explore a yet unknown cave system. After an accident closes off their only exit they scramble to find a way out before their supplies are exhausted, but they must also fight off creatures that seem to be occupying the caves and bear a resemblance to ancient depictions of demons. With Morris Chestnut, Eddie Cibrian, Cole Hauser, Piper Perabo and Lena Headey. Directed by Bruce Hunt. [1:37]

SEX/NUDITY 1 - A woman wears a swimsuit that reveals cleavage, bare abdomen and bare legs, a woman wears a short top and short shorts that reveal bare abdomen and legs, a woman's diving suit is cut open (to perform CPR) revealing cleavage, and a woman's diving suit is unzipped and reveals cleavage.
A woman kisses a man on the cheek and a man admires a woman from a distance and approaches her.

VIOLENCE/GORE 7 - A man runs from a demonic-looking creature (it has bat-like wings, claws and teeth), his leg is pierced by a stalactite, he falls to the ground, the creature pounces on him, bites his head, picks him up and we hear a snap (presumably his back breaking).
A creature comes toward a woman tied to a rope and hanging from a rock wall: she swings back and forth to get away from it, she sprays the creature with flames from a torch, it screeches, she cuts her rope and falls to a neighboring rock wall, while the creature flies toward her, clings to the rocks around her and begins to slash and bite her; the woman struggles, stabs it and sets it on fire (we see the creature falling in flames).
A man who's in water hears splashing noises behind him, he is pulled under the surface, thrashes around, yells and is pulled under (we see a large winged creature pushing the man under the water); another man follows him, he finds him being pulled through a very tight space between two large rocks by a creature, the man is very bloody and cries for help, and then disappears.
A creature jumps on a man, another jumps toward two other men who get out of the way, the first man is pulled into a tight space between two rocks, he screams for help, and another man follows him and finds him pinned to the ceiling and impaled with stalactites (we see blood at the wounds on his body, he quivers and dies).
A man squeezes through a very tight passage, he finds many scorpions on the inside who prepare to sting him, he looks farther into the passage and sees a large set of pointed teeth coming toward him; he is grabbed, pulled in and thrashed, we hear yelling and when he comes out he has a bloody slash on his shoulder and holds a piece of a large claw.
A woman climbs a sheer rock wall, she gets to a ledge, pulls herself up, she hears noises inside a passageway, and sees a creature with very large teeth and claws, which approaches her; she screams and backs off the ledge, she falls and is stopped by her rope (she dangles by the rope and she's unconscious for a moment).
A creature lunges toward a man and a woman who are in water, and another man slashes the creature with a knife (we see squirts of white goo). A man with a knife drawn jumps from a ledge toward a creature that's flying toward him, they collide in mid-air, they struggle, the man stabs the creature, they fall, and they are covered by collapsing rock formations.
A creature runs toward a man, the man runs away, another creature approaches on the other side, and the man is trapped between them (he does manage to get away).
Two divers swim through water and squeeze through very tight passages in a few scenes; in one scene one of the divers is unconscious when she is pulled to the surface (the other diver does CPR and she regains consciousness).
A diver searches for three other divers, a large eel lunges at him as he swims underwater, and he finds blood-splattered equipment where the three had been.
A man finds a small creature that's splattered with blood lying on a rock, he reaches for it, the creature screeches and runs away, and another large creature with pointed teeth lunges toward the man; he runs, gets in the water, swims toward a scooter and grabs it, but the creature grabs the man and he lets go of the scooter (it speeds into a wall and explodes causing rocks to fall down).
Two men climb down a sheer rock wall, one slips, drops his gear, the gear hits the other man knocking him off the wall, he falls to the ground, slides down an ice covered passage and injures his leg (we see blood on his torn pant leg).
An explosion opens a large hole under men who are in a deserted church, they fall and debris falls on top of them (we see some of them with bloody wounds on their faces and one of them has a broken leg, with blood on the wound); the outer rock wall falls on top of them closing them off from the outside, and they hear noises and the screen goes black.
Divers float through rapids that throw them into rock walls and over a waterfall: one man is stuck on top of a rock with a very bloody wound on his leg, and a woman is trapped at the edge of the rapids alone (they both manage to come through eventually).
A man convulses and moans in several scenes and appears to be in pain (we hear crackling when this happens). A man carries a dead woman's body, places her on the ground (we see large, bloody slashes on her side) and covers her with a tarp.
Large eel-like creatures lunge at divers in a couple of scenes. Divers huddle in a circle while in water and are startled by eels swimming around them and through them.
We see a man on a video screen and he is holding a mole-like creature that squirms violently and screeches; the creature gets away and he is startled by something else that knocks out his transmission.
We see a large boulder fall on a man's hand, suggesting that he is crushed beneath it. A man punches another man, and they fight and wrestle on the ground briefly. A man shoves a man onto the ground, and a man shoves a man back into a wall.
Something appears to be watching a group of divers in several scenes (we see this through its perspective). Divers squeeze through very tight passages in several scenes (some in the water and some on land).
A scientist examines a piece of a claw and when she touches it with an instrument it recoils and so does she. Divers find the bones of a large creature, and divers find a large piece of a human leg bone with teeth marks on it. A diver does a sound check of a passage and says, "There's something there that wasn't there before." Divers find a cavern filled with human skulls and skeletons. Several men walk through a cavern beneath a deserted church, and we see human skulls and stone carvings of people with tortured faces. We see a monkey's skull tied to a cross at the entrance to a church.
A truck drives through a wooden gate shattering it. The shape of a man's eyes and his skin tone change as the movie progresses. We see a crumpled shoe and are told that that was all that was found of a missing man.

PROFANITY 5 - 1 not fully enunciated F-word derivative, 3 sexual references (1 used in a sexual context), 15 scatological terms, 4 anatomical terms, 16 mild obscenities, 4 religious profanities, 6 religious exclamations. [profanity glossary]

A CAVEAT: We've gone through several editorial changes since we started covering films in 1992 and some of our early standards were not as stringent as they are now. We therefore need to revisit many older reviews, especially those written prior to 1998 or so; please keep this in mind if you're consulting a review from that period. While we plan to revisit and correct older reviews our resources are limited and it is a slow, time-consuming process.

INAPPROPRIATE ADS? We have little control over ads since we belong to ad agencies that serve ads automatically; a standing order should prevent provocative ads, but inappropriate ads do sneak in.
