Unlike the MPAA we do not assign
one
inscrutable rating based on age, but 3 objective ratings for SEX/NUDITY, VIOLENCE/GORE
and PROFANITY on a scale of 0 to 10, from lowest to highest,
depending on quantity and context.
Martin Short and Mary Kay Place star as well-meaning
parents who hire mercurial Captain Ron (Kurt Russell) to take their boat to Miami where it
can be sold,
SEX/NUDITY 4 - A man is often bare-chested (he wears his shirt open when he
wears one), and we see him in bikini-style swim-wear and briefs. As for women, lots of
cleavage shots, bikini tops, etc. A man and woman are in the shower, obviously nude; we
get a top view and a pretty clear glimpse of her chest through the shower door, and bare
behinds. A man goes off with a girl, into the water, and though it's obvious what he's got
in mind, we see no "real" sex scenes.
VIOLENCE/GORE 3 - A man gets guns pulled on him by the guerrillas which he
later needs to transport (the guerrillas that is). When the Cubans get mad, they go after
the boat with machine guns, lots of shots fired, but no one is hurt. A man fires shots at
another.

PROFANITY 5 - The F-word is uttered, along with several scatological
references and mild obscenities. [profanity glossary]
A CAVEAT: We've gone through several editorial changes since we
started covering films in 1992 and some of our early standards were
not as stringent as they are now. We therefore need to revisit many
older reviews, especially those written prior to 1998 or so; please
keep this in mind if you're consulting a review from that period.
While we plan to revisit and correct older reviews our resources are
limited and it is a slow, time-consuming process.
