ASSIGNED NUMBERS |
|
|
Unlike the MPAA we do not assign one inscrutable rating based on age, but 3 objective ratings for SEX/NUDITY, VIOLENCE/GORE and PROFANITY on a scale of 0 to 10, from lowest to highest, depending on quantity and context. |

Daniel Stern stars as a man wrongly accused of murder who
inadvertently takes a scout troop "hostage."
SEX/NUDITY 1 - A group of boys look at a Playboy (we don't see anything);
the kids discuss sex in vague, inaccurate ways and a man makes moaning noises with dolls
(we don't see the dolls) to demonstrate sex.
VIOLENCE/GORE 2 - A man walks into a fire-filled room and a few scenes where
people are threatened with guns. A man and a group of kids have problems with wilderness
living: falling down hills, nearly falling through a flimsy bridge, nearly being eaten by
a bear, falling into a river and nearly going over a waterfall. A man and woman are nearly
forced over a cliff, a child falls over the cliff and hangs onto a tree. There are many
yelling scenes.
PROFANITY 5 - 2 F-words (garbled) and two derivations, a handful of
scatological terms, and several milder obscenities. [profanity glossary]
DISCUSSION TOPICS - Wrongful accusations.
MESSAGE - You can find friendship in the strangest locations; things aren't
always as they seem.

A CAVEAT: We've gone through several editorial changes since we started covering films in 1992 and some of our early standards were not as stringent as they are now. We therefore need to revisit many older reviews, especially those written prior to 1998 or so; please keep this in mind if you're consulting a review from that period. While we plan to revisit and correct older reviews our resources are limited and it is a slow, time-consuming process. |
