ASSIGNED NUMBERS |
|
|
Unlike the MPAA we do not assign one inscrutable rating based on age, but 3 objective ratings for SEX/NUDITY, VIOLENCE/GORE and PROFANITY on a scale of 0 to 10, from lowest to highest, depending on quantity and context. |

Buffy (Kristy Swanson) is a shapely high-school cheerleader
and general air-head, until Donald Sutherland appears as an ancient guy and lets her know
that she comes from a long line of gifted vampire slayers.
SEX/NUDITY 3 - Lots of touchy-feely kissing between Buffy and her boyfriend
in the scenes prior her to her becoming aware of her destiny. When one of the high-school
boys approaches Buffy wearing a hot dog in an anatomically appropriate place, she puts him
in his place by slicing it in half. Buffy shows off her physique by wearing very tight and
low-cut ensembles.
VIOLENCE/GORE 7 - Many vampires being killed-quite graphically-with wooden
spikes through the heart. One arm is severed.
PROFANITY 0 - No foul language. Just lots of typically California air-head
expressions. [profanity glossary]
DISCUSSION TOPICS - Vampires and the supernatural, death, destiny.
MESSAGE - You can't fight fate. When you've got a job to do, just do it.

A CAVEAT: We've gone through several editorial changes since we started covering films in 1992 and some of our early standards were not as stringent as they are now. We therefore need to revisit many older reviews, especially those written prior to 1998 or so; please keep this in mind if you're consulting a review from that period. While we plan to revisit and correct older reviews our resources are limited and it is a slow, time-consuming process. |
