ASSIGNED NUMBERS |
|
|
Unlike the MPAA we do not assign one inscrutable rating based on age, but 3 objective ratings for SEX/NUDITY, VIOLENCE/GORE and PROFANITY on a scale of 0 to 10, from lowest to highest, depending on quantity and context. |

The villainous doll Chucky is here again, and this time he
has a buddy -- a female buddy. With Jennifer Tilly, Brad Dourif, John Ritter, Katherine
Heigl, Nick Stabile, Alexis Arquette and Kathy Najimy. [1:29]
SEX/NUDITY 4 - Sexual innuendo. A couple dolls have sex with moaning and
thrusting; we see a bit of the female doll's bare buttocks. A couple kiss and moan in bed,
but remain clothed. We see some suggestive dancing; a bit of a woman's bare buttocks are
visible. Some scantily clad women and men.
VIOLENCE/GORE 8 - Many murders are committed throughout the film -- some
people are stabbed, a man's throat is slit, a man is mutilated by a truck, a couple is
impaled by a mirror and a man is impaled by nails -- and we see lots of bloody bodies,
wounds and weapons. A man is shot in the head; we see blood on his body and blood
splattering onto gravestones. In a few scenes, dolls and people are bloody after murdering
others. We see a severed, bloody finger. A chain is ripped out of man's lip (we see lots
of blood). We see a couple slightly bloody corpses and a decomposed corpse in a coffin. A
doll that was put in an oven is burned. Threatening with guns and knives, explosions and
reckless driving.
PROFANITY 7 - About 14 F-words, a couple anatomical references and many
scatological references and mild obscenities. [profanity glossary]
DISCUSSION TOPICS - Dolls, murder, Evil.
MESSAGE - The Chucky franchise should die a quiet death.

A CAVEAT: We've gone through several editorial changes since we started covering films in 1992 and some of our early standards were not as stringent as they are now. We therefore need to revisit many older reviews, especially those written prior to 1998 or so; please keep this in mind if you're consulting a review from that period. While we plan to revisit and correct older reviews our resources are limited and it is a slow, time-consuming process. |
