Unlike the MPAA we do not assign one inscrutable rating based on age, but 3 objective ratings for SEX/NUDITY, VIOLENCE/GORE and PROFANITY on a scale of 0 to 10, from lowest to highest, depending on quantity and context.
A couple (Kurt Russell and Kathleen Quinlan) traveling
cross-country has a car breakdown and the wife is abducted.
SEX/NUDITY 1 - Kissing. Sexual innuendo.
VIOLENCE/GORE 7 - A man is stabbed with a letter opener. A man is shot in
the chest with some blood and then lies down twitching. A man has duct tape tied around
his neck and then is choked repeatedly. A man is shot in the shoulder with some blood.
Another man is shot and killed -- with no blood. A man is hit with a rifle a couple of
times and has a bit of blood on his forehead and hands. An extended fistfight with lots of
face punches and one man is then very bloody. A few falls; one results in a man landing on
rocks with some blood on his temple. A woman has her leg pinned. A woman is covered in
tarp and kicked a few times. A truck rams a car and tries to push it over a bridge. A
couple of explosions.

PROFANITY 7 - About 20 F-words, many mild obscenities and scatological
references, some anatomical references. [profanity glossary]
A CAVEAT: We've gone through several editorial changes since we started covering films in 1992 and some of our early standards were not as stringent as they are now. We therefore need to revisit many older reviews, especially those written prior to 1998 or so; please keep this in mind if you're consulting a review from that period. While we plan to revisit and correct older reviews our resources are limited and it is a slow, time-consuming process.
