ASSIGNED NUMBERS |
|
|
Unlike the MPAA we do not assign one inscrutable rating based on age, but 3 objective ratings for SEX/NUDITY, VIOLENCE/GORE and PROFANITY on a scale of 0 to 10, from lowest to highest, depending on quantity and context. |

Chris Farley is a klutzy, inept ninja wannabe in this
action comedy.
SEX/NUDITY 2 - Sexual innuendo, Farley's naked buttocks, suggestive dancing
and scantily clad dancers in a strip club.
VIOLENCE/GORE 4 - A few people are shot dead but all we see are their
corpses afterward (no blood). Mainly played for laughs: Explosions, fires, reckless
driving, falls, chases, threatening with guns, gunfire with automatic weapons and a few
gunshots. Lots of pratfalls, falls through glass, hitting (many times with objects), kicks
and punches and lots of martial arts fighting. A few people are killed with knives
(thrown) and a few people are burned by falling onto hot grills.
PROFANITY 3 - A few scatological references, anatomical references and mild
obscenities. [profanity glossary]
DISCUSSION TOPICS - Ninjas, martial arts, counterfeiting.
MESSAGE - To be great at anything you have to have a good heart.

A CAVEAT: We've gone through several editorial changes since we started covering films in 1992 and some of our early standards were not as stringent as they are now. We therefore need to revisit many older reviews, especially those written prior to 1998 or so; please keep this in mind if you're consulting a review from that period. While we plan to revisit and correct older reviews our resources are limited and it is a slow, time-consuming process. |
