Unlike the MPAA we do not assign one inscrutable rating based on age, but 3 objective ratings for SEX/NUDITY, VIOLENCE/GORE and PROFANITY on a scale of 0 to 10, from lowest to highest, depending on quantity and context.
Martial arts movie with Eric Roberts and Phillip Rhee as
the good guys who avenge a friend's death by taking on the bad guy who killed him.
SEX/NUDITY 1 - Some scantily-clad Las Vegas dancers, and a couple of fairly
sedate kisses. Also, plenty of well-developed male torsos.
VIOLENCE/GORE 7 - There are the usual high-speed punches and acrobatic kicks
of martial arts movies, plus a couple of scenes where fighters break their opponent's
necks, arms and legs, with great relish. One lengthy gun-fight, during which one character
is literary drilled with automatic gun fire, another is stabbed in the neck, and a third
one shoots his own foot.

PROFANITY 5 - Some F-words and various obscene insults. [profanity glossary]
MESSAGE - You can't always pick your fights; when you are forced to fight
though, do it well. Accepting failure gracefully is more important than winning.
A CAVEAT: We've gone through several editorial changes since we started covering films in 1992 and some of our early standards were not as stringent as they are now. We therefore need to revisit many older reviews, especially those written prior to 1998 or so; please keep this in mind if you're consulting a review from that period. While we plan to revisit and correct older reviews our resources are limited and it is a slow, time-consuming process.
