ASSIGNED NUMBERS |
|
|

An English man falls in love with an African student who
cleans his home and tries to free her wrongfully imprisoned husband. With Thandie Newton,
David Thewlis and Claudio Santamaria. [1:32]
SEX/NUDITY 5 - A little sexual innuendo and some interested glances. A man
grabs a woman and embraces her; she eventually pushes him away. Two men dance closely. We
see a shirtless man a few times, a woman's cleavage and a woman's bare breast as
she briefly rubs it. A woman unbuttons a drunken man's shirt and snuggles close to
him; we see them lying together the next morning, with her breast is briefly visible (her
wrap-around dress is slightly undone).
VIOLENCE/GORE 2 - Soldiers shove a man around and drag him out of a room. We
see urine flowing down a frightened woman's leg and vomit coming out of a
woman's mouth. A woman tears down posters hanging on a wall.
PROFANITY 0 - None. [profanity glossary]
DISCUSSION TOPICS - Africa, imprisonment, falling in love, homosexuality,
obsession, selflessness vs. selfishness.
MESSAGE - Be careful what you wish for since you just might get it.

A CAVEAT: We've gone through several editorial changes since we started covering films in 1992 and some of our early standards were not as stringent as they are now. We therefore need to revisit many older reviews, especially those written prior to 1998 or so; please keep this in mind if you're consulting a review from that period. While we plan to revisit and correct older reviews our resources are limited and it is a slow, time-consuming process. |
