ASSIGNED NUMBERS |
|
|

Spin-off of the Fox Network's "Batman: The Animated
Series." The villain is The Phantasm, a vigilante who cuts a silhouette that's
similar to the Dark Knight's.
SEX/NUDITY 1 - There is some kissing and a sexual encounter between Bruce
and a girlfriend is (subtly) implied.
VIOLENCE/GORE 4 - There's lots of punching and beating, sometimes occurring
in close-up. Also a lot of shooting, though no one gets hit by a bullet. And, several
explosions. The Joker employs a poison that causes victims to laugh themselves to death --
we see one corpse with a ghoulish grin on its face. The Phantasm wears a razor-sharp
scythe on his hand, and threatens people with it, though nobody actually gets cut by the
weapon.
PROFANITY 0 - None. [profanity glossary]
DISCUSSION TOPICS - Mental illness, revenge, vigilantism, organized crime.
MESSAGE - This is a story about turning points, and a meditation on
the-path-not-taken idea.

A CAVEAT: We've gone through several editorial changes since we started covering films in 1992 and some of our early standards were not as stringent as they are now. We therefore need to revisit many older reviews, especially those written prior to 1998 or so; please keep this in mind if you're consulting a review from that period. While we plan to revisit and correct older reviews our resources are limited and it is a slow, time-consuming process. |
