ASSIGNED NUMBERS |
|
|
Unlike the MPAA we do not assign one inscrutable rating based on age, but 3 objective ratings for SEX/NUDITY, VIOLENCE/GORE and PROFANITY on a scale of 0 to 10, from lowest to highest, depending on quantity and context. |

Part comedy and part horror movie, about a present-day man
(Bruce Campbell) who goes back in time to the middle ages, and finds himself fighting an
army of monsters.
SEX/NUDITY 1 - Some cleavage, and some kissing.
VIOLENCE/GORE 7 - Some of the violence is intentionally comic, but it is
graphic nevertheless. And there's plenty of gore. There are people -- and skeletons and
latex monsters -- burned, shot with crossbows, blasted with a shotgun and bombs, and cut
and decapitated with swords and a chain saw. The hero even saws his own hand off, then
shoots and dissects his own clone (who has sprouted from his own shoulder).
PROFANITY 5 - One F-word, and other assorted profanities and name-calling. [profanity glossary]
DISCUSSION TOPICS - Magic, being possessed by evil spirits.
MESSAGE - You mustn't avoid your duty and responsibilities. A man's got to
do what a man's got to do.

A CAVEAT: We've gone through several editorial changes since we started covering films in 1992 and some of our early standards were not as stringent as they are now. We therefore need to revisit many older reviews, especially those written prior to 1998 or so; please keep this in mind if you're consulting a review from that period. While we plan to revisit and correct older reviews our resources are limited and it is a slow, time-consuming process. |
