Editor's Note: Many of the descriptions reveal crucial elements of many of the comedians' routines. It was impossible to disguise them.

A multitude of professional comedians discuss the success of an old vaudeville routine titled "The Aristocrats" -- which has been called the world's dirtiest joke -- and to analyze the reason for its long life. They also share their renditions of the joke, and try to outdo each other in creating the most outrageous version by employing extreme sexual and violent imagery. With Penn Jillette, George Carlin, Whoopi Goldberg, Drew Carey, Gilbert Gottfried, Bob Saget, Paul Reiser, Sarah Silverman, Robin Williams, Teller, Phyllis Diller, et al. Directed by Paul Provenza. SEX/NUDITY 10 - There are repeated references to the following subjects: Incest, bestiality, anal sex, and oral sex. Many versions of the joke contain references to sex with dogs, goats, gorillas and donkeys.
 A pregnant comedian shares her version of the joke, which includes the woman delivering the baby, the father having sex with the baby, putting the baby back inside the mother and having sex with the mother while the baby performs oral sex on the man.
 A joke is about a man having been sexually violated in "every orifice" and is then covered with sperm. A joke is about people stretching their foreskin over their heads as part of an act.
 A ventriloquist masturbates his puppet. One joke describes a boy masturbating with a bottle and a man demonstrates using his hand. A joke contains details about conjoined twins masturbating each other.
 A joke includes a description of a man having sex with his niece, another talks about a man using a fist to penetrate his daughter, and another talks about a woman performing oral sex on her son and her husband.
 A mime performs the joke and demonstrates the different sexual positions with different size people and animals (using children and a dog). One person uses cards with references to people having sex with other people and he uses the cards to form what looks like the female sex organ. One person talks about the female sex organ and describes what an old woman's looks like.
 Two people describe sex acts and use their hands to demonstrate. One version includes a man ejaculating on his wife's breasts.
 We see a nude man and woman in a hot tub (their bare shoulders are visible and her breasts are diffused by the water) and at one point the man leans over to kiss the woman's breasts. A man drops his pants and we see his bare buttocks.

VIOLENCE/GORE 6 - A joke contains a description of man having a fishhook put through his penis. One joke is about a penis being severed. A person talks about someone biting a man's genitals off.
 A joke is about a man hitting his wife with a baseball bat repeatedly until she is a bloody pulp, and then he chases his daughters and hits them with the bat also. A joke is about a woman hitting her husband hard in the head with a hammer and causing him to flip backward and out of his chair. A joke is about a man hitting a woman in the face and knocking out all of her teeth, a man talks about a child's eye popping out and a man having sex in the eye socket.
 One joke describes a boy masturbating with a bottle and that the end of his penis blew off, and a man demonstrates using his hand and the end of the bottle breaks off.
 One joke includes a man defecating in a woman's mouth and the woman gargling, another talks about people urinating in each other's mouths, and others refer to part of the act being that people would defecate, urinate and vomit on a stage and then swallow the detritus. One person talks about someone who likes to urinate on her sex partners. Someone talks about a woman's menstrual blood being part of an act. A comedian talks about someone eating someone else's vomit. One joke refers to a woman putting a cigar in her anus and smoke coming out of her vagina. There is an extensive description of the contents of a person's stool. Another joke talks about someone removing a woman's tampon and throwing it against a window where it sticks.
 A comedian talks about dead fetuses on the stage and aborted fetuses. Two men talk about anal rape. One person refers to a person suffering from prolapsed anus from so much sex.

PROFANITY 10 - 83 F-words and its derivatives, 80 sexual references, 92 scatological terms, 98 anatomical terms, 2 mild obscenities, 5 derogatory terms for African-Americans, 3 derogatory terms for homosexuals, 1 derogatory term for Hispanics, 4 religious exclamations. [profanity glossary]

SUBSTANCE USE - A man talks about "doing blow," and a man smokes a cigarette in a few scenes.

DISCUSSION TOPICS - Comedy, what is funny, shock humor, crude humor, acceptable crude humor delivered by women vs. men, differences between African-American humor and Caucasian humor, masturbation, incest, bestiality, absurdity, Tourette Syndrome, rape, racism, titillation, pornography, bisexuality, Puritanism, sadism, standards of offense.

MESSAGE - The limits of what is considered crude humor are constantly shifting to accommodate more elements. Comedy is a mystery.
