ASSIGNED NUMBERS |
|
|

Samuel L. Jackson and Nicholas Cage make an unlikely pair
in this mistaken-identity farce about racial stereotyping: Jackson is a famous,
award-winning black author while Cage is white, undereducated and a crook.
SEX/NUDITY 1 - Sexual paraphernalia is visible in an open drawer. One scene
where Cage is leering at a teenage girl.
VIOLENCE/GORE 3 - A few shoving matches and one fist-fight between Cage and
a policeman: Cage gets a rifle butt in the stomach, and then proceeds to knock the
policeman out with a frying pan. Jackson is dragged from under a bed and bound.
PROFANITY 4 - About ten assorted profanities; no F-words. [profanity glossary]
DISCUSSION TOPICS - Pre-marital (and under-aged) sex, racism and racial
stereotyping, social class distinctions.
MESSAGE - Don't judge by appearance, race, or economic class.

A CAVEAT: We've gone through several editorial changes since we started covering films in 1992 and some of our early standards were not as stringent as they are now. We therefore need to revisit many older reviews, especially those written prior to 1998 or so; please keep this in mind if you're consulting a review from that period. While we plan to revisit and correct older reviews our resources are limited and it is a slow, time-consuming process. |
