EDITOR'S NOTE

» In the next few weeks we will be trying out In-Text Advertising, a new type of advertising that we think is less intrusive than many other formats. Basically, keywords on our pages that correspond to an advertiser's product or service will be double-underlined in green. More details here.

MPAA Rating: R

A second-string quarterback becomes an overnight sensation in his football-crazy town when he takes over for an injured star player. With Jon Voight, James Van der Beek, Paul Walker, Ron Lester, Scott Caan, Amy Smart, Ali Larter, Richard Lineback, Eliel Swinton, Thomas Duffy, Jill Parker Jones and Tonie Perensky.

SEX/NUDITY 6 - Sexual innuendo, including references to oral sex, and kissing, sometimes passionately. A boy pretends to perform oral sex on another boy. A girl in a bra (the top of her dress is pushed down to her waist) makes out with a boy; we also see a girl take off her shirt and skirt (we see her bra and her bare stomach). A naked boy covers his genitals with a cowboy hat (we see his bare buttocks) and we see three naked women sitting in a dark car (only their bare shoulders and some cleavage are visible). We see a nude woman with whipped cream covering her breasts and genital area. One scene takes place in a topless bar and we see several bare-breasted women in thong underwear; one woman rubs her breasts against a boy's face. In a close-up shot, a boy moons the camera. We briefly see a drawing of male genitalia during a health class. Scantily clad women (we see lots of short skirts and revealing tops).

VIOLENCE/GORE 3 - We see several football games during which players are hit, tackled and flipped. Three players are injured during games; two of them have leg injuries (one has surgery and is in traction for awhile and both end up using crutches) and one has a head injury (he seems dazed for a few days and passes out during class). A boy hits a man in the groin with a baseball bat and a man grabs a boy by the neck. A boy hits a man in the face with a football and bloodies his nose (later, we see him with black eyes and a bandaged nose); he also purposely throws a football at a team mascot and a man riding a horse (the man falls off the horse but isn't injured). A boy shoots some trophies with a rifle; another shoots a poster of a man's face. A boy steals a police cruiser and drives recklessly through town. A man pukes in a washing machine. We see a bloody towel.

PROFANITY 9 - About 40 F-words, lots of anatomical references (plus many slang terms for an erection), lots of scatological references, lots of mild obscenities and several insults. [profanity glossary]

DISCUSSION TOPICS - Ambitions and dreams, relationships, coaching football, popularity, drinking, small-town life.

MESSAGE - Give all you can while you're on the football field, but don't spend the rest of your life reliving those glory days.
