Unlike the MPAA we do not assign
one
inscrutable rating based on age, but 3 objective ratings for SEX/NUDITY, VIOLENCE/GORE
and PROFANITY on a scale of 0 to 10, from lowest to highest,
depending on quantity and context.
An aspiring rap singer (Pras) and his business partner (Ja
Rule) try to make a CD but need cash to pay for studio time; they end up meddling with
drug money. Based on the autobiographical book, Ghetto Supastar, by Pras himself. Also
with Eugene Clark, Jason Statham, Patricia Velazquez, Tamala Jones and Vondie Curtis-Hall. [1:27]
SEX/NUDITY 5 - A little sexual innuendo and a couple of scenes of passionate
kissing. We see a woman in bed covered by a sheet (her bare back is visible). We see a
woman in her underwear; at first we see her bare back, and then we briefly see the side of
her breast.
VIOLENCE/GORE 8 - Lots of threatening and shooting with guns; a man is shot
in the head (we don't see the bullet hit him), a man is shot in the gut at point-blank
range, a man is shot in the chest and shoulder, a man in shot in the arm, and in a few
scenes several men are shot in the chest several times (we see blood stains on a few of
the men; they all presumably die). A man is shot and then electrocuted; his dead body is
caught in what appears to be a wire and dangles from some stairs. A person dies of a heart
attack; we see the body lying on the floor. A man's face is nearly shoved into a meat
slicer's circulating blade; he's spared at the last second, but then gets beaten up
instead. A man punches another's stomach and face a few times; a man punches and kicks
another several times, bloodying his face; a man is kicked in the gut several times; a man
is kicked in the groin; a man's head is slammed into glasses on a shelf; and a man is hit
over the head with a gun. We see blood all over a man's face; also, we see blood
surrounding a man's mouth. A man chops up a fish with a clever.

PROFANITY 10 - About 105 F-words, some anatomical references, several
scatological references, some mild obscenities, a few religious obscenities, several
insults, and many racial slurs. [profanity glossary]
A CAVEAT: We've gone through several editorial changes since we
started covering films in 1992 and some of our early standards were
not as stringent as they are now. We therefore need to revisit many
older reviews, especially those written prior to 1998 or so; please
keep this in mind if you're consulting a review from that period.
