At the risk of losing his marriage and his job, newspaper
reporter (Clint Eastwood) begins investigating a man sentenced to die that very evening
for a murder he may not have committed six years earlier. Also with Isaiah Washington,
James Woods, Denis Leary, Lisa Gay Hamilton, Penny Bae Bridges, Diane Venora, and Bernard
Hill. [2:07]
SEX/NUDITY 4 - Sexual innuendo (including a reference to oral sex) and a few
kisses. In an obviously post-coital scene, a man with a towel wrapped around his waist
kisses a woman's upper leg (she's wearing a slip and we see a bit of her panties) and she
rubs his bare chest a few times. We briefly see a woman in a cleavage-revealing top.
VIOLENCE/GORE 6 - A few times, we see different parts of a flashback scene:
a man threatens a woman with a gun then shoots her in the chest (we see her lying on the
floor with blood on her chest and face); while she's still alive, another man performs CPR
on her and gets blood on his hands and clothing. A woman loses control of her car and we
see it crash into a parked truck (we don't see her body). We briefly see a man scuffling
with two others. A man shoves another man onto a couch. A woman hits a man with a
briefcase several times. A girl falls out of a stroller and gets a couple of bloody cuts
and scrapes on her face. We see an IV inserted into a man's arm, then see blood pour out
of it when it's removed. Reckless driving.
PROFANITY 9 - About 32 F-words, lots of anatomical and scatological
references, lots of mild obscenities and several insults. [profanity glossary]
DISCUSSION TOPICS - Death row, capital punishment, the legal system, infidelity,
alcoholism, investigative journalism.
MESSAGE - Follow your instincts; don't let others sway you from what you
think is right.
