MPAA Rating: G

Edgar Rice Burroughs' most famous hero gets the Disney treatment: After a shipwreck Tarzan's parents are killed by a leopard and baby Tarzan is adopted by a family of gorillas. He grows big and lithe and then he meets Jane and fights several men who want to capture his ape family. With the voices of Joe Whyte, Brian Blessed, Glenn Close, Minnie Driver, Tony Goldwyn, Nigel Hawthorne, Lance Henriksen, Wayne Knight, Alex D. Linz and Rosie O'Donnell. [1:28]

SEX/NUDITY 1 - A couple of kisses and some handholding. Tarzan tries to peek under Jane's skirt -- out of curiosity.

VIOLENCE/GORE 4 - A leopard chases a baby gorilla and then -- it is implied but not seen -- she eats it. The same leopard chases a human baby (with a similar nutritional intent in mind) during an extended scene, wounds a large gorilla, and eventually fights Tarzan who's armed with a spear. At one point both Tarzan and the leopard have scratches on them and they fall into a hole. The leopard is dispatched off screen. We see two obviously dead bodies, partly hidden by furniture, and bloody leopard footprints on the floor. A very large group of baboons pursue a man and a woman on a high-speed chase through trees and other foliage. A hunter fires several shots into the jungle but we don't see anything being killed. Gorillas in a playful mood ransack a camp (they break dishes, tear books, etc.). Several men chase a man, capture him and imprison him, along with other people they captured earlier. Several men chase and capture gorillas in nets and cages. Gorillas and baboons attack and knock several men down. A man wrestles a large gorilla, and two men fight each other. One man hits the other with a gun and one man attacks with a machete. A woman gets between them and is knocked down. A man shoots and fatally wounds a gorilla. A man is hanged when he falls through jungle vines (we see a vine around his throat, and then see his dangling shadow). Several elephants panic and almost trample a boy, a snake chases a boy and we see a shipwreck: the ship is on fire and a family is trying to escape in a boat. A gorilla disapprovingly sniffs a soiled diaper.

DISCUSSION TOPICS - Africa, gorillas, predators, hunting and trapping animals, evolution.

MESSAGE - We may look different on the outside, but as long we have feelings we're the same. Gorillas are people too.
