MPAA Rating: G

A high school science teacher and baseball coach with a mean fast ball (Dennis Quaid) makes a deal with his team that if they start winning he'll try out one more time to become a professional ball player. After being recruited by the minor leagues and joining the team as they travel across the country, he begins to wonder if being separated from his family is really worth trying to satisfy his dream. Rachel Griffiths, Brian Cox, Beth Grant and Jay Hernandez. [2:09]

SEX/NUDITY 1 - A man and woman kiss passionately. A woman grabs a man's buttocks as she walks by, and a man and woman hug a few times. A boy blows kisses to another boy on the baseball field trying to psyche him out. We see men bare-chested several times; a man sleeping in bed, a man just coming out of bed, and men in a locker room.

VIOLENCE/GORE 1 - Boys get angry and frustrated when they don't do well on the baseball field (they kick the dirt and grunt and throw their mitts). During baseball games we see people jumping into fences to catch balls, sliding into bases, nearly being hit by wild balls, etc. Teachers talk about rattlesnakes being on the playground and bringing the children inside. A boy talks about his father's surgery and says "they put a thing from his ankle to his shoulder." We see a large scar on a man's shoulder. A man changes his baby's dirty diaper, his son reacts to the odor, and we see the darkened package as the man carries it to a garbage can.

PROFANITY 2 - 1 grunt that sounds as if it could have been the beginning of an F-word, 3 mild obscenities, 1 religious profanity, 4 religious exclamations, some name-calling and insults. [profanity glossary]

DISCUSSION TOPICS - St. Rita (patron saint of impossible dreams), jealousy, fame, regret, failure, dreams, commitment, quitting, guilt, relocating, uninvolved fathers, relationships between fathers and sons.

MESSAGE - If you don't have dreams, you don't have anything. Do your best to avoid missing those special moments of your childhood, as well as your children's childhoods.

(Note: People are shown drinking alcohol in a few scenes. A team is shown huddling in the locker room for a prayer before a game.)
