It's 2050, the Earth is dying from pollution, and a motley crew of astronauts is sent to Mars in order to find out why attempts to create an oxygen-based atmosphere on the red planet have failed. With Val Kilmer, Tom Sizemore, Carrie-Anne Moss, Benjamin Bratt, Simon Baker and Terence Stamp. [1:56]

SEX/NUDITY 3 - A little sexual innuendo and talk of procreation. We see a woman taking a shower; her silhouette is clearly visible through the frosted glass. We also see her from the back and the side of a bare breast is briefly visible. A man and a woman flirt and seem ready to kiss but do not. We see men and a woman in tight tank tops -- the woman's nipples are frequently visible through the fabric.

VIOLENCE/GORE 5 - There are many explosions and several tense scenes of peril, with the crew frantically running around trying to fix problems with their spacecraft. A man is pushed off a cliff; we see his body fall for several seconds, but do not see him land. A man is attacked by a dog-like robot, which breaks one of his ribs -- the scene takes place very fast and we do not see any gore. The robot also tosses a couple of men around and threatens them with its hands that whirl and spin very rapidly. It proceeds to kills one man, presumably with its hands -- the scene is fast and blurry and indistinct. It also tries to punch another man. We see a dead man lying on the ground. There's blood on his spacesuit, helmet and hand but we do not see any wounds. An insect-like creature crawls up his nose, and then many presumably similar creatures light-up like fireflies and come flying out of his body. Similar creatures rush toward and cover another man -- we don't see any burrowing. He sets himself and the creatures on fire using a flare (we just see him being enveloped in a flash). Blood drips from a man's mouth and the creatures start licking it. We see bloody cuts on a man's face and a woman cuts her hand on broken glass. A man seems dead and a woman administers CPR, that includes thumping on his chest. Men urinate in an extended scene, while marveling at the high arch they can achieve with their urine under Mars' reduced gravity (we do see their arches).

PROFANITY 5 - One F-word, accompanied by a raised middle finger. Many scatological terms, a few anatomical terms, a few instances of religious exclamations and a couple of religious profanities. [profanity glossary]

DISCUSSION TOPICS - Pollution and the Greenhouse Effect, the extinction of life on Earth, science vs. religion and faith, extraterrestrial life, space colonies.

MESSAGE - We're killing Earth, but there's still hope if we manage to colonize other planets. Some movie astronauts are mentally unstable and shouldn't be travelling in space.
