Unlike the MPAA we do not assign
one
inscrutable rating based on age, but 3 objective ratings for SEX/NUDITY, VIOLENCE/GORE
and PROFANITY on a scale of 0 to 10, from lowest to highest,
depending on quantity and context.
Matthew McConaughey becomes the willing subject of a
24-hour all live TV show, with unpredictable results. Also with Woody Harrelson, Jenna
Elfman, Elizabeth Hurley, Dennis Hopper, Sally Kirkland, Viveka Davis, Ellen DeGeneres,
Rob Reiner and Martin Landau. [2:03]
SEX/NUDITY 4 - Sexual innuendo and discussions of sex and nudity;
there's also a description of a penile implant. A couple kiss passionately and fondle
each other; then they move to a table where they thrust against each other (they remain
clothed). A couple kiss tenderly and then passionately. A couple begin kissing in a car
and the man removes the woman's shirt (we only see her shoulders). A couple is also shown
kissing in bed, under sheets, exposing bare shoulders and a leg. A man wakes up with an
erection (we briefly see a bulge through his sweatpants) and he reaches into his pants and
rubs himself. Two shirtless men are shown a few times. A woman's naked buttocks and her
bare back are seen, a woman wears a very tight fitting sweater, a woman wears a revealing
evening gown and several women wear midriff-revealing tops.
VIOLENCE/GORE 2 - There's a really gross scene of a man clipping his
toenails in extreme close up. A woman is knocked to the floor by a large crowd and a man
gets knocked in the head with a football. A man falls on a cat. Two men nearly fight.

PROFANITY 5 - Three profane hand gestures (one is quite elaborate), about 10
scatological terms, 1 sexual term, a couple of dozen anatomical references, 2 remarks
about sexual performance, many mild obscenities and a few insults. [profanity glossary]
DISCUSSION TOPICS - Human nature, relationships, divorce, greed, TV and TV
ratings, infidelity, lying, loyalty.
MESSAGE - Family and love are more important than fame and fortune.
Paternity doesn't necessarily mean fatherhood.
A CAVEAT: We've gone through several editorial changes since we
started covering films in 1992 and some of our early standards were
not as stringent as they are now. We therefore need to revisit many
older reviews, especially those written prior to 1998 or so; please
keep this in mind if you're consulting a review from that period.
While we plan to revisit and correct older reviews our resources are
limited and it is a slow, time-consuming process.
