Unlike the MPAA we do not assign
one
inscrutable rating based on age, but 3 objective ratings for SEX/NUDITY, VIOLENCE/GORE
and PROFANITY on a scale of 0 to 10, from lowest to highest,
depending on quantity and context.
The caped crusader is back battling villains Poison Ivy and
Mr. Freeze. George Clooney puts on the spandex this time out. Also with Arnold
Schwarzenegger, Chris O'Donnell, Uma Thurman and Alicia Silverstone.
SEX/NUDITY 2 - Scantily clad women. Kissing, sexual innuendo.
VIOLENCE/GORE 5 - Venom is squirted into a man's skull as he twitches and
convulses; his body bulks up and veins pop out. A man's tongue swells and turns black as
he dies. Screams from the background as people die during experiments. A couple of corpses
with black mouths and engorged veins. Many fight scenes with no blood but with kicking,
punching, twirling and people being thrown around and hit with objects. A scene with
people being shot at. A man is choked. A man is thrown many feet into a glass case,
another man is thrown and falls with an audible thud. A man is kicked in the face. Many
people are frozen. A person is attacked by plants. A man shrinks to death. An explosion.
Threatening with guns and chases. Reckless motorcycle riding.
A CAVEAT: We've gone through several editorial changes since we
started covering films in 1992 and some of our early standards were
not as stringent as they are now. We therefore need to revisit many
older reviews, especially those written prior to 1998 or so; please
keep this in mind if you're consulting a review from that period.
While we plan to revisit and correct older reviews our resources are
limited and it is a slow, time-consuming process.
